LATIN AMERICAN BAR THE LEAF AND CANE LAUNCHES IN BLACKFRIARS

The Leaf and Cane invites city dwellers to escape to a jungle of vibrant-styled mixology and soul-quenching street food from the southern hemisphere.

Located in a tropical setting just a stone’s throw away from Blackfriars station, The Leaf and Cane introduces the urban district to an energetic, welcoming atmosphere inspired by the larger-than-life tribes of South America. Hidden in this underground bar is a tropical-themed indoor space, uniquely accompanied by nine stone vaults for a memorable al fresco dining experience.

Playing a main role in the new Latino bar will be its menu of uniquely handcrafted and photogenic cocktails, featuring tropical flavours taken straight from across the globe. Guests are encouraged to find their own journey of discovery in exciting, diverse concoctions like:

  • Gracious Beast: Discarded Banana Peel Rum, Disaronno, Toasted Cashew Orgeat, Black Walnut Bitters
  • Alluring Beauty: Havana Club 3yo, Yellow Chartreuse, Pomegranate & Hibiscus Liqueur, Pineapple, Citrus, Creole & Molasses Bitters, Absinthe Spray, Aquafaba
  • Ray of Sun: Bush Passion Fruit & Guava Rum, Ron Zacapa Centenario 23yo, Sistema Solera, Velvet Falernum Liquor, Spiced Mango, Citrus, Angostura Bitters
  • Amusing Ape: Amazzoni Dry Gin, Cointreau, Passion Fruit Honey, Coconut Cream, Citrus Soda Water, Orange Bitters

…and more.

Thoughtfully crafted to accompany the bar’s drinks offerings, The Leaf and Cane’s expert team of chefs have curated a variety of mouth-wateringly good nibble dishes, from Taco Al Pastor, Cassava Fries to Pão De Queijo, designed to be shared amongst friends. The bar’s signature Dulce Churros are also not to be missed.  The Leaf and Cane is not only a taste-led experience; its immersive ambience is defined by the upbeat vibrations of the multicultural setting it represents. With live entertainment ranging from jazz tunes to Afro-Cuban beats, guests can kick off their evening in a colourful escape reminiscent of the tribe-life by which it’s inspired.

One tribe in particular to which The Leaf and Cane pays homage is the Borucas, a powerful indigenous tribe living in the forests of Costa Rica with a taste for dancing and homemade Chicha (a fermented alcoholic beverage derived from maize). In the fictional story behind The Leaf and Cane, the heiress of the tribe, Princess Nandayure, dislikes the sour taste of the Chicha and prays to the gods to find a better drink. She dreams of a bird that takes her to see a tall, majestic plant – one which she finds when she awakens and uses to create a remarkable drink. The drink as we know it today is called Aguardiente, which means “water that burns”, or the “sugar cane”. This is used to make the national drink of Costa Rica, Guaro, and its Molasses that are used worldwide to make Rums.

A hidden gem in the midst of busy city life, those looking to discover something new can venture down the steps into The Leaf and Cane and choose to dine in the centre of action amongst stylish, premium furnishings inside, or find a spot in one of the bar’s unique and cosy al fresco stone vaults, which date back to the building’s days as a women’s prison. While filled with greenery reminiscent of the jungle, guests can enjoy the vaults in a more comfortable climate, with air conditioning and heating available in these more private areas.

The Leaf and Cane is one of three F&B outlets opened within Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars.

Open from Tuesday to Friday, 5pm-1am. Available for private hire.
